Pirates: Halloween 2005

Pirates: Halloween 2005

Above is a picture of Derek and I from Halloween 2005.  We both went to our church’s “Carnival on the Corner” as pirates, it was fun!

One Sunday at church we sang a song called Treasure, by the Desperation band.  It got me thinking about the Pirates you see in the movies. Their entire purpose is to look for treasure. In the process of looking, some lose their lives and others maybe an eye (Pirates of the Caribbean)!  They set sail searching for treasure, which they have never seen, with an undying determination. I began to wonder what it would look like if we searched for God like a pirate searches for a treasure. What would it look like if we truly sought after what His desire is for our lives?

As I think through the lyrics of the song Treasure it says “I would run for a thousand miles if I knew every step would be getting me closer, I’d swim to the ocean floor- for my Lord is the treasure.” Would I really run for a thousand miles to find God? I can hardly run a mile! Our time we spend with God is so precious and he is THE treasure worth looking for, or even dying for. Let’s become more like pirates, passionately searching for the true treasure each and every day!

Here are the lyrics to the song Treasure:

 VERSE 1:

Your breath is like rain
Your word it sustains me
I’ve come to this place
With intentions of finding You

CHORUS:

I would run for a thousand years
If I knew every step would be getting me closer
I’d swim to the ocean floor
For my Lord is the treasure
My Lord is the treasure

 VERSE 2:

Your truth is a lamp
Your wisdom my light
I’m seeking Your face
With intentions of finding You

BRIDGE:

Holy holy
Holy is the Lord
