As we reflect on what all God has allowed us to do here in Panama we are pretty overwhelmed. God has allowed us to experience many different things, and we are so blessed by that. We’ll soon be going back to the USA, but we will forever remember all the things that God has taught us and allowed us to be a part of here in Panama.
A verse that has really come to life is the following, found in 2 Timothy, 2:2
“2 And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.”
We feel like our work here was not to simply to do the work of the Lord ourselves, but to help and encourage others, who will in turn be able to teach others, so that the work can keep growing continually, like the 2 Timothy 2:2 model shows.
One of our best memories of Panama was seeing this verse put into action. One of the main things we did while we were here was teach several church planting classes. We taught over 150 people here in the city in 7 different classes, and we taught about 100 people outside the city in different parts of Panama through weekend workshops on Church Planting.
There is a young man named Ariel (pictured above with Derek) that was part of our first Church planting class back in 2010. During our second class, he came alongside us and helped us teach. In a recent class that we had he was our co-teacher, teaching about half of the material. More recently, in June, he traveled with Derek and they taught a weekend workshop. He taught well over half of the material, and is very capable of teaching the whole course on his own.
For us this was a really neat thing. This is one example of how God has worked to multiply out what all we were doing here, so that many more can hear about Jesus and be trained and equipped to go out and share the gospel.
We are so fortunate that God has allowed us to be a part of his work here, that he gave us the chance to be here serving him in Panama. We know that God has great plans for the people of Panama, and that He will continue to work in and through them!
We appreciate your prayers as we transition back to the states, and in the beginning of 2013 on to Buenos Aires, Argentina.
